The INFATI System
Information with sound and light.
The system consists of a display with two lamps. When the driver of the vehicle
observes the local speed limit, a green lamp is on. If the driver exceeds the
local speed limit, a red lamp is on. In addition to this, the display shows the
local speed limit, and the numbers blink if the local speed limit is exceeded.
The light signal is supplemented by a sound signal. If the speed limit is
exceeded, a friendly female voice says what the local speed limit is, and that
the vehicle drives to fast. If the speed limit is 50 km/h, the message will be
"50 - you are driving to fast". If the speed limit exceeding is
continued, the system will repeat "50 - you are driving to fast"
every 6 seconds.
The Technology behind the INFATI-system:
- Position module - GPS receiver.
- The Dead Reckoning module (is on the flash
drive card on a credit card PC, and it calculates the gisnet position based
on the latest valid GPS position and the input from one or more of the
following components: gyro, digital compass accelerometer and odometer).
- Road database module with associated
property data such as prices and speed limits (is on a special, movable
flash drive on a credit card PC, and it matches the current position with
the most likely road in the road database and provides the property data to
the main programme).
- The main programme is on a flash drive card
on a credit card PC, and it collects and processes output to the display.
- Loudspeakers in the car
