Both in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Sweden experiments with Intelligent Speed Adaptation have been carried out for a long time.

In Sweden a number of experiments with Intelligent Speed Adaptation have already been carried out. And in the period 1999 - 2001, the Swedes will carry out a so-called large-scale project, where different Intelligent Speed Adaptation technologies will be tested. Totally the Swedish State has spend 75 million SKr on the projects.

There will be installed different kinds of Intelligent Speed Adaptation technologies in 6000 vehicles. The experiments take place in four cities, i.e. Böränge, Lidköping, Lund and Umeå.

In Borlänge, 200 vehicles will be equipped with an information system with display and a GPS-receiver. Other 200 cars will be equipped with a quality control system combined with a GPS-receiver.

In Lidköbing 200 vehicles will be equipped with an information system with display and GPS-receiver. Other 200 vehicles will be equipped with an active speeder pedal and GPS-receiver.

In Lund 200 vehicles will be equipped with an active speeder pedal and GPS-receiver.

In Umeå, 5000 vehicles will be equipped with an information system with display. In stead of digital maps, transmitters at the road side will be tested.
